Sophie Smolsky
Teacher

Born and raised in Los Angeles, California, Sophie began her competitive dance career at the age of 2 and fell in love with the art immediately. She is trained in a variety of styles including ballet, jazz, tap, lyrical, contemporary, pom, hop-hop, tumbling, improv, mommy and me, and dancer pilates. She grew up performing annually in The Nutcracker— her favorite former roles being The Snow Queen and The Dew Drop Fairy.

After years of refining her technique, she became an assistant instructor to her studio director at 15 and went on to become a faculty member at 18. At the same time, she was a varsity member and captain of her high school dance team.

Sophie moved to New York to study at St. John’s University where she was a member of the school’s Division 1 Dance Team. During her four years, she won several national titles with the team, including a National Championship in Division 1 Hip-Hop in 2020.

In January 2020, Sophie became a member of Rose Academy of Ballet. She is passionate about working with kids, teaching proper technique and movement, and most importantly giving young dancers a judgement free space to do what they love.
